Currently the Elementary School has 82 students enrolled from Kindergarten through Grade 7, with a total of 10 staff.  All the staff are dedicated Christians who consider their teaching to be a form of ministry for the Lord.  The children are taught non-denominational Bible stories, memorize scripture and sing Christian songs.  We use Christian textbooks that focus on teaching the factual material as well as building good character.

Student Body

We have an EXCELLENT school!  Our students come from all backgrounds and are mostly average children.  They learn, though, and do well wherever they go!  A brother and sister who left us after completing the 8th grade each were voted as valedictorians of their high school class in Conroe, where they continued their education.  The sister was an outstanding student, but the brother was average.

Reading

We are special because we strive for the best in every area.  Our students must work on oral reading as well as silent reading and reading comprehension.  We require each student to use neat handwriting in whatever they do.  From the middle of 3rd grade on, students are expected to write everything in cursive and to continue improving legibility.

Math

Every main concept presented in math is expected to be learned by everyone.  Constant review, practice, and re-teaching is done to ensure this.  Students must master the old fashioned standards of counting back change, telling time, place value, fractions, measurements, thermometers, and addition and subtraction.  In the later grades, standards include long division, multiplication, decimals, percentages, geometry terms and formulas, and algebraic equations. Each year the previous work is reviewed and built upon.  Students must master the plain math facts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  By the 6th grade, students should be doing these problems at 80 problems per minute with the exception of multiplication, which should be at 60 problems per minute, all with 97% accuracy.

Language

In language, the students learn the eight parts of speech and diagram sentences as well as the other usual language skills.  Each student must learn this in the appropriate grade.  Beginning in January in the 1st grade, students work on creative writing.  They write from 3 to 5 stories each six weeks.  These are graded on spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and grammar as well as content. We use a program called Excellence in Writing.

Other Subjects

We usually finish every book in every subject each year.  Many times a teacher will use her free time to work with a student who is having trouble in some area or who just needs help studying.  By the 5th grade, we expect students to be typing 40+ words per minute with 95% accuracy.  Many type much faster than this.  All classes above kindergarten have six computers in the room.  We have a computer lab with 21 stations which each class attends once a week.  We also have a library with over 8,000 books.  The teachers do not inflate academic grades or behavior grades.  This does not always make parents happy, but we believe that by giving honest evaluations of our children, we are helping them build a strong foundation for a solid future.
